eBook Download Instructions
The following step-by-step instruction will guide you how to download and read the ebook files that you have purchased from 2exodus.com.
You have been provided with two files (a link has been emailed to you):
- epub file (a standard ebook file format that is supported by almost every e-book reading device including iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch,and Sony Reader)
- mobi file that isKindle Ready (an ebook file format for Kindle).
If you prefer to read them on your computer, then,
- the epub file can be read with Adobe Digital Editions (free download)
- and the mobi file can be read by Kindle for PC or Mac (free download)
Transferring e-books to Kindle
You have two options when it comes to transferring your e-book to your Kindle.
- Wireless Transfer
- Using Kindle USB cable Transfer
1) Wireless Kindle Transfer
You can transfer your e-book .mobi file wirelessly into your Kindle by using your dedicated Kindle email address. (This address can be found on the Manage Your Kindle page at Amazon.) Download the e-book file to your computer. Email the file to your dedicated Kindle email address and Kindle will wirelessly deliver the file directly into your Kindle.
2) Kindle USB Cable transfer
To transfer your e-book .mobi file from a PC using your Kindle USB cable,
- Connect the cable to your Kindle. Then, your Kindle content folders will appear as a removable drive in Windows Explorer. If you are using a Mac, your Kindle content folders will appear in Mac OS Finder. (If you have an optional SD memory card installed, it will also appear as a drive independent of the Kindle).
Transferring e-books to your Nook, or Sony eReader
- Download your epub file from Bethlehem Books
- Download the free Adobe Digital Editions software here
- Open Adobe Digital Editions
- Add your e-book to Adobe Digital Editions, click Library>Add.
- Connect Nook/Sony reader to computer via USB Cable, you should then see a Nook/Sony reader icon in the left column of Adobe Digital Editions.
- Drag-and-drop your new e-book(s) to the Nook icon. If this is the very first time you've put Adobe Digital Editions content on your Nook/Sony reader, it might ask if you want to authorize your device, you do.
Transferring e-books to your Kindle
- Download your e-book .mobi file from Bethlehem Books
- Connect the USB cable (provided with your Kindle) to the Kindle and your computer.
- Your Kindle should appear on your computer in the same location you would normally find an external USB drive.
- Open your Kindle drive. You should see a folder entitled "documents."
- Transfer the downloaded files into the "documents" folder of your Kindle.
- Using your computer, eject your Kindle from your computer. The content you transferred should now appear in Home.
Transferring e-books to Kindle Fire
- Download your e-book .mobi file from 2exodus.com
- Connect your Kindle Fire to your computer with a micro-USB cable
- Slide the arrow from right to left to unlock your Kindle
- Open the Kindle Fire drive on your computer. Your Kindle Fire will appear as an external
storage drive or volume on the computer's desktop. Note that Kindle Fire is not usable as
a device while connected to your computer as a storage drive or volume
- Drag and drop your content into the applicable content folder.
- When you are done transferring files, press the Disconnect button at the bottom of the Kindle
Fire screen and eject it from your computer, then unplug the USB cable
Transferring e-books to Kindle Touch
- Once you've connected your Kindle Touch to a computer with the USB cable, your Kindle Touch will appear in the same location as external USB drives usually appear. For Windows users, this is typically in the "Computer" or "My Computer" menu. For Mac users, the drive will appear on the desktop.
- Open the Kindle drive. You will see several folders inside, one of which will be named "documents." This is the folder you will move the downloaded file into.
- Locate the downloaded file and copy it into the documents folder. You can generally copy files by clicking and dragging the file to the folder.
- Using your computer, safely eject your Kindle Touch from your computer and unplug the USB cable. Your content will appear on the Home screen.
Reading Bethlehem Books e-books on Apple devices
You can transfer your epub(s) to your reading device using the iBooks app. To download the iBooks application and use the iBookstore, you need an Internet connection and an iTunes Store account.
iPod Touch: Download the e-book using your computer. Then, in iTunes, choose File > Add to Library. Connect iPod touch to your computer, select the book in the Books pane in iTunes, then sync iPod touch.
iPad: Download the e-book using your computer, then add it to your iTunes library. Connect iPad to your computer, select the book in the Books pane in iTunes, then sync iPad.
iPhone: Use iTunes to sync your books between iPhone and your computer. When iPhone is connected to your computer, the Books pane lets you select which items to sync. Sync an ePub book to iPhone: Download the book using your computer. Then, in iTunes, choose File > Add to Library. Connect iPhone to your computer, select the book in the Books pane in iTunes, then sync iPhone.
WHERE CAN I READ SA EBOOKS?
On your eBook reader: Scientific American eBooks can be read on any eReader device: Kindle, iPad, Nook, Kobo and others.
On your phone: Most recent mobile phones have apps to read eBooks, for example, Kindle reader or iBooks
On your laptop/desktop: Programs like Calibre (free at https://calibre-ebook.com/) allow reading of eBooks on your laptop.
GENERAL FILE INFORMATION
There are two file types: one for Kindle, called a .MOBI and one for other devices, called an .EPUB
You have access to download both types of files.
You can download the files for your eBook more than once. So, for example, if you need to download separately for your eBook reader and your mobile phone, you can do that.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR EREADERS
Instructions for the most popular devices are included below. It’s not possible to account for them all. If your device is not listed, please check the manufacturer support pages for that device. Instructions may also differ slightly depending on the generation of device or operating system.
KINDLE
Select the Download Mobi/Kindle option.
Select Save as and select a location to save your eBook file (called .MOBI) to a folder on your computer.
Connect your Kindle to your computer via USB cable.
You will be able to see your Kindle device as a disk drive.
PC: located in My Computer
MAC: located in Finder. On a MAC, it will also appear as an icon on the desktop.
Note: if your Kindle doesn’t show up as disk drive, you may not have the correct driver installed. Please see Kindle Troubleshooting, below.
Click on the Kindle disc and navigate to Documents folder on your Kindle device
Drag your eBook file (.MOBI) from where you saved it on your computer and drop in the Documents folder on your Kindle eBook reader.
Safely eject the device
KINDLE FIRE
For Mac users
MAC users will first need to install the free Android File Transfer app to complete USB transfers. Go to the File Transfer app at: https://www.android.com/filetransfer/ using your computer’s Web browser and follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the app.
Select the Download Mobi/Kindle option.
Select Save as and select a location to save your eBook file (called .MOBI) to a folder on your computer.
Connect your Kindle Fire to your computer via a USB cable.
Use Finder to navigate to the Applications folder and double-click the File Transfer App. Your Mac opens the device’s file system, as shown below:

Find your eBook (.MOBI) file you saved in step 3, then drag-and-drop it into the device’s Books folder.
Wait for the file to transfer and safely eject the device from your computer.
The eBook should appear on the device’s carousel screen. If not, the eBook will be found in the Docs application
FOR PC USERS
Select the Download Mobi/Kindle option.
Select Save as and select a location to save your eBook file (called .MOBI) to a folder on your computer.
Connect your Kindle Fire to your computer using a USB cable.
Wait for your computer to recognize the device, then click the Start Globe and select Computer to open Windows Explorer.
Note: In some cases, it may be necessary to unlock the Kindle Fire before your computer recognizes the device.
Under Portable Devices, double-click Kindle > Internal storage.
Double-click Books and move the window aside.
Find your eBook (.MOBI) file you saved in step 2, then drag-and-drop it into the device’s Books folder you opened in Step 6.
Wait for the file to transfer and safely eject the device from your computer.
The eBook should appear on the device’s carousel screen. If not, the eBook will be found in the Docs application
NOOK
Select the Download Epub/Other option.
Select Save as and select a location to save your eBook file (called .EPUB) to a folder on your computer.
Connect your Nook to your computer via USB cable.
You will be able to see your Nook device as a disk drive.
PC: located in My Computer
MAC: located in Finder. On a MAC, it will also appear as an icon on the desktop.
Click on the Nook disc and navigate to the My Nook > My files > Books folder on your Nook device
Drag your eBook file (.EPUB) from where you saved it on your computer and drop in the Books folder on your Nook eBook reader.
Safely eject the device
IPAD
The simplest option is to download directly on your iPad.
Select the Download Epub/Other option.
Select Open in iBooks from the pop-up window
The eBook will be added to your iBooks library
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MOBILE PHONES
Instructions may differ slightly depending on the generation of device or operating system.
IPHONE
The simplest option is to download directly on your mobile phone. Make sure you have an eReader app installed such as Kindle Reader or iBooks.
If you select the Download Mobi/Kindle option, click Open in Kindle from the pop-up window.
If you select the Download Epub/Other file option, click Open in iBooks from the pop-up window.
Your eBook will be added to the library in the app.
ANDROID PHONES
The simplest option is to download directly on your mobile phone. Make sure you have an eReader app installed such as Kindle Reader or Google Play Books.
If you select the Download Mobi/Kindle option, the eBook file (.MOBI) is saved in the Download folder.
Open your file manager.* On some devices it’s called file explorer. Locate your eBook file (.MOBI) .
Copy your eBook file (.MOBI) and paste it into your Kindle folder: Internal Storage > Kindle.
Open the Kindle App, in the menu select Sync .
The uploaded ebook will appear in the library.
*If you do not have a file manager installed, you can download a file manager app from the App Store.
If you select the Download Epub/Other file option, the eBook file (.EPUB) is saved in the Download folder.
Go to your Download folder and select the eBook file (.EPUB). It will open in Google Play Reader.
When the reader opens, it will begin to upload and process the book.
When the process is complete, the eBook cover will appear and can be read in the app.

IPAD/IBOOKS TROUBLESHOOTING
Note: To transfer an eBook from your laptop to your iPad, you must have iCloud sync enabled.
Once iCloud sync is enabled, connect with a USB cable and the device will sync automatically.
