Bible Commentary By Dan Bertran Griffey

Chapter 1 - 9

Amos was a prophet of Judah, the Southern Kingdom, with a message to Israel, the Northern Kingdom, at the time of Uzziah, king of Judah (787 - 735 B.C.) and Jereboam II king of Israel (790 - 749 B.C.). Israel was in the high tide of prosperity, but brazen in its idolatry and reeking in moral rottenness; a land of swearing, stealing, injustice, oppression, robbery, adultery and murder. Sounds like any major city of our day. Listen how Amos, the Lord's prophet words about our times leap off the page into our ears, and how Heaven tries to steer the Israel of the Holy Land out of the darkness they have descended into. Words we, in our time, desperately need to hear!
